Pakistan tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq returned home (Wednesday) after playing two finals at US Open 2010.

Aisam was greeted by large number of supporters at Lahore airport where his family was also there to welcome him. Government and Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) officials draped Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi with garlands as fans chanted “long live Aisam” and “our new hero.”

“I am pleased that I have been able to bring some joy to my countrymen,” said Qureshi.

Aisam became the first Pakistani to play the final of any grand slam event, he played men’s and mixed doubles final of US Open 2010 but fell short of winning the title.

Qureshi and his Czech partner Kveta Peschke went down to Americans Liezel Huber and Bob Bryan in the mixed doubles final of the US Open on Friday, before Qureshi and Bopanna lost to Bob and Mike Bryan in the men's doubles final.

After the US Open, Aisam and his Indian partner Rohan Bopanna jumped up to 6th spot in ATP tennis rankings.

Aisam’s efforts in the US Open has been celebrated with lots of enthusiasm and support, his parents and fans are really proud of Aisam and hoping for more victories in future.

“We are proud of his achievement and by reaching the finals of the US Open he has made the nation proud,” his father Ehtesham said.

“His partnership with Bopanna has already been praised by Indian and Pakistani media and throughout the US Open Qureshi-Bopanna pair got more praise because they come from rival nations,” Ehtesham said.

This is a start of a bright future of Tennis in Pakistan, no one has ever done that what Aisam did, definitely it’s the time for the government as well to think seriously about promoting this sport. Lots of stars will emerge after the success of Aisam in US Open.
